Development of the MEH Data Centre in Batam, Indonesia Initiated
Following months of work in the preparation of technical specifications for a MEH Data Centre and subsequent tendering and contract negotiation, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) on behalf of the MEH Demonstration Project signed a contract with GMT Cybernetics Co., Ltd. based in the Republic of Korea on 1 December 2010 for the supply, installation, commission, and training on the hardware and software of the MEH Data Centre. The effectivity of the contract commenced on its signing and is expected to be completed in five months.
With the implementation of this activity, the Project is entering into a new era of progress towards realizing the electronic highway of marine information in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore. A diagram of the general IT architecture of the MEH Data Centre is shown below.
MEH General IT Architecture
The general MEH IT infrastructure is organized in three main bodies described below:
- A shared MEH Data Center linked and supported by the VTS of Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore, capable of sending back its data to all three VTS.
- A website with public and restricted access area.
- A private software network for business application hosting.
